Director of Communications

Job Title: Director of Communications (40 hours, exempt)
Reports to: Pastor/Head of Staff
Purpose
The Director of Communications is responsible for maintaining and revising, when necessary, the strategic plan for communications for Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church (SAPC) and ensuring all formal communications consistently support and align with the church’s vision, values, and branding. In addition, this position is very hands-on, and includes implementing communications projects and initiatives.
Essential Job Functions
The individual’s job tasks focus on three key areas: 1) overseeing and implementing the communications plan, 2) ensuring the communications plan contains the proper framework for any and all church growth and 3) collaboration/coordination with internal ministries and volunteers.
Overseeing and Implementing the Communications Plan
Manage, develop, and publish key communication tactics to ensure a consistent voice and presence. This includes:
  • Laying out and editing bulletins for weekly and special services
  • Finding and/or creating any visual media needed for weekly and special services
  • Posting and monitoring the church’s social media accounts
  • Maintaining and updating the church web site over time
  • Editing and laying out the weekly church email Newsletter
  • Developing additional promotional materials as needed to support specific campaigns and events throughout the year (ex. posters, brochures, postcards, banners, etc.)
  • Working with committees and ministries to keep church bulletin board updated
  • Making recommendations to interior and exterior signage as needed to ensure consistency
  • Producing videos for use in various communication tactics
  • Coordinate photography and videography as needed
Ensuring the communications plan contains the proper framework for growth
  • Continue to assess church needs in all aspects of communications
  • Develop and maintain a style guide to ensure consistent language and branding
  • Work with church leadership to understand the needs
  • A willingness and discerning ability to hold firm, yet graceful, boundaries given various new requests from within church leadership.
Collaboration/Coordination with Internal Ministries and Volunteers
  • Serve as resource and point-of-contact for ministries and committees to prioritize, streamline and manage congregational communications.
  • Assist and support individual ministries to develop and implement communication strategies consistent with the broader church communication strategy.
  • Seek out stories and experiences within SAPC ministries and the congregation to highlight and share, to help the church see and celebrate the work God is doing.
  • Train staff and volunteers as needed to enhance communication capabilities.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or equivalent required.
  • The ability to use Wordpress, Gmail, Microsoft Office, Canva, Facebook/Meta, Instagram,
Mailchimp, and Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe inDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro,
Adobe Audition, Adobe DC, Adobe Illustrator, etc.) is required.
  • The ability to learn quickly new facets within the aforementioned programs is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience developing and implementing communications plans.
  • Demonstrated creativity and eye for graphic design.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve issues within various communications platforms
  • Willingness to monitor newer communications platforms and adapt, as necessary
  • Good people skills and a sense of teamwork.
  • Successful candidates will be non-members of SAPC.
  • An understanding of Presbyterian polity and denominational (PC-USA) beliefs is certainly a plus, but not necessary

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
