EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
In this position, you will serve as the Operations Integration Branch Chief and provide supervisory oversight to a staff of specialists that perform emergency management work including managing, and coordinating with other entities regarding the emergency response to intentional and/or unintentional crises, disasters, other humanitarian emergencies, hazards, or natural and man-made/technological (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, high-yield explosives) incidents. Typical assignments include:
- Writing and reviewing emergency response plans, procedures, and guidance documents; drafting and commenting on legislation and other emergency management policy documents; and interpreting the laws, regulations and policies applicable to FEMA.
- Preparing and providing technical advice and guidance to the regional leadership concerning the National Response Framework which is a guide that defines coordinated, effective emergency response support to disaster-impacted Federal, State, local, tribal, territorial, nongovernmental organizations, and private sector, particularly when the disaster is of such a magnitude that the State and local resources are overwhelmed.
- Ensuring the implementation of programs to engage all stakeholders in reducing the frequency, severity, and cost of disasters, injuries, fatalities, and impact on critical infrastructure and the environment.
- Serving as an expert consultant and staff advisor to the Regional Response Division Director on assigned program areas of responsibility.
- Overseeing the Regional Watch Center that maintains a 24-hour regional situational awareness to conduct analysis, determine possible impacts, identify potential and occurring incidents within their respective areas of responsibility, and reports to their Regional Administrator, and directly support response operations at the regional level.
